Arizona’s Education Department has recently chosen the Software as a Service (SaaS) learning management solution provider, Blackboard, for providing learning solutions to the various teachers coming under the school districts in Arizona. The department would be hosting a variety of courses through the Blackboard’s learning management solution to 60,000 plus public and chartered school teachers. Initially, the legacy courses that exist in the IDEAL platform would be migrated to Blackboard. The technical staff from Blackboard would be starting with migration as the first task in the very near future.
The Blackboard learning management system would also integrate with the other applications managed by the state’s Education Department such as the applications for paying course fees, registration of classes and progress tracking. John Huppenthal, Arizonaai??i??s superintendent of public instruction, remarked that the teachers need to upgrade their skills level in sync with the changes being made to the K-12 curriculum. This would help the teachers to bring the students up to speed and make them master the new curriculum in a quicker fashion. The company officials remarked that Blackboard is currently being used in more than 70 schools across Arizona. This deal would enable them to solidify their presence across the various schools in Arizona.
